John Lennon’s first car a Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Coupe will go under the hammer on February 5th, it is thought that the car will sell somewhere around the £140,000 mark. The light-blue 1965 Ferrari 330 GT was immaculately restored in the mid 90s.
John Lennon’s biographer Philip Norman described how car dealers descended on the Fab Four singer’s home following news that he passed his test and offered him a ‘gleaming smorgasbord’ of luxury cars. He was offered Maseratis, Aston Martins and Jaguars but Lennon’s choice was the Ferrari. He paid £2000 for the car back in 1965.
Previously John Lennon’s psychedelic Rolls Royce sold for £1.5 million in 1985.
Porsche unveiling the latest version of its 918 hybrid supercar at the opening day of the North American Auto Show in Detroit today.
The new Porsche 918 RSR is based on concept cars 911 GT3 R and 918 Spyder.
In total the RSR has 756bhp; 555bhp comes from its mid-mounted V8 petrol engine (taken from Porsche’s RS Spyder LMP2 car) driven through a six-speed paddle-shift transmission to the rear wheels, and a further 201bhp is generated by two electric motors on the front wheels. A torque vectoring function incorporated within the electric motors provide variable torque distribution to the front axle, said to increase agility and improve steering feel.
Porsche has given the green light for 918 production but not confirmed when we can expect to see the final car. Despite this the company is already reported to have taken deposits for the range topping supercar!

In just a few hours we’ll know exactly what Porsche has been concocting back at Weissach to become its first new model of 2011. In a sense we already know that it will be a fully-manufactured product based on the gorgeous 918 Spyder Concept – the mid-engine hybrid concept sports car first revealed by Porsche at Geneva last March.
Last month Porsche announced it would be revealing a new sports car at Detroit’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), and word was that it would be based on the 918 Spyder Concept – probably a GT racer fitted with a more mainstream (i.e. non-hybrid) powerplant.
During the night Porsche released the following video which shows a fixed-roof version of the 918 Spyder Concept design, and with images of the iconic Porsche 917 race car showing in the background Porsche are clearly inviting us to make a direct connection between the two.
You can watch the live Webcast of the Porsche press conference in Detroit at www.porsche.com/detroit on January 10, 2011.

Porsche has announced it will unveil an all-new model in a world premiere at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show this month, after hinting for some time that its return to the Detroit show would include an impressive debut.
The supercar could be a version of the 918 Spyder concept that made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show and was recently green-lighted for production a few months later. The German magazine Auto Zeitung reported last month that the car could be the 929, a “no-compromise two-seat supercar” based on the 918 that would slot in above the 911.
